Volt League Week 1 Recap
The Volt League kicked off a brand-new season on Sunday with some very good games, including a rematch of the recent final between AC Juniors and Ghosttown Saints. Unfortunately, two of the fixtures did get postponed due to last minute roster issues for the teams competing. The games that did took place did not disappoint!
Frankfurt Athletic vs Houstonians FC (PP)
Ghosttown Saints FC 3-3 AC Juniors
When the schedule came out, you better believe that these two teams were excited to meet again in a rematch of last season’s final. AC Juniors were crowned champions after defeating Ghosttown Saints back in June. Ghosttown got on the scoreboard first in this match, which would spark a hard-fought battle between both clubs. The Saints looked for the counter most of the match, led by winger Presley Castelan and striker Samuel Ayoka, both of whom would find the back of the net against AC Juniors. For Juniors, the player that led the attack was Alan Cruz, who was last season’s MVP. Cruz scored a brace in what would end up being a goal-fest draw.
FC Night Watch 8-1 Rovers FC
Night Watch pounced early and would not let up against Rovers. The Owls were led up top by forward Isaiah Figueroa who bagged a hat trick and currently sits as the top scorer of the league. Night Watch would not let go of the throttle against the Wolves, taking all three points with a 7-goal advantage. The Owls are in first place in the table after their brilliant start to the season.
International SC vs MAFC (PP)
FC Seinfeld 1-4 Green Flag FC
The late match on Sunday was a very competitive one, even if the final score might not reflect it. Seinfeld had an amazing season last year, losing in the semifinals. They went toe to toe against Green Flag in Week 1 in a game were lady luck wasn’t on Seinfeld’s side. Striker Jonathan Rodriguez scored the first goal for FC Seinfeld but it wouldn’t be enough as Green Flag would beat their goalkeeper on four occasions. Forward Kevin Solorzano bagged multiple goals in Green Flag’s triumph.
